Take it Outside

Some people get turned off of working out, because they find it boring.  Well it doesn’t have to be! It’s time to shake things up and take the workout outside! You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Here is a simple workout you can do outdoors that will help you get in good shape.

  • Begin with bodyweight squats and perform 15 repetitions.
  • Immediately follow this with 10-15 push ups or as many as you can
  • Follow it up with 15 jump squats.
  • Do mountain climbers (as many as possible for one minute).
  • Perform burpees for one minute. (Or more mountain climbers! )
  • 10-15 Pull-ups (If you don’t have a bar available, skip this exercise)

Repeat 2 to 3 more times for a total of 3 to 4 sets. As it gets easier, add in more repetitions. Rest for one minute when you complete each cycle.

Remember: It is important to do this non stop from the first exercise all the way up to the last exercise.

Do this workout 2 or 3 times per week on nonconsecutive days. Allow at least one day’s rest.

Sounds easy enough!?! All you need is a water bottle, yourself and the great outdoors.  Remember to stay hydrated when you are working out, especially outdoors.

Banana and Berry Smoothie

When it’s hot outside, I don’t want to cook. And, I’m sure that I’m not alone!  Give this smoothie recipe a try.

*3/4 cup (175 mL) low-fat plain yogurt
*1/2 cup (125 mL) skim milk
*1 banana
*1/2 cup (125 mL) fresh or frozen berries

AND: A scope of protein powder of course!!!

Once you have all the ingredients, blend!!

Remember: Milk and yogurt are good sources of vitamin D

Do you have a favourite smoothie recipe?

Working Out At Home

Today instead of getting up at 5am, I slept in.  Which is unlike me!  Mind you, sleeping in until 6am is sleeping in for me.  I opted not to go to the gym this morning.  My workout wasn’t on purpose! Ha ha…how bad does that sound!?

This workout started by several trips up and down the stairs.  I kept forgetting things that I needed from my room.  So I decided to keep going up and down the stairs.  Several trips turned into 20 trips.

Every time I reached the top, I did 20 squats.  When I reached the bottom I did 20 push-up’s.

I definitely got my sweat on, and I got my muscles to scream a little.

I’ve been bbbbbaaaaaaaaad!

I have no real reason for not posting lately.  I’ve just been a slacker.

Moving to a new city is never easy.  I have started to settle, slowly!!  I have started at a new gym, and get back on track.  Which hasn’t been easy. I’m not in “love” with the new gym.  However, it will do for now.  Just give me some time.

I was a little taken back at the lack of customer service at my new gym.  I seriously thought they would be more welcoming.  I had a question for someone at the customer service desk, and all he did was wave his index finger at a board.  Gee…thanks captain obvious!  I could have totally figured that one out on my own.  Ha ha!!

The lack of friendliness is definitely making it hard to go back.  Not that it will stop me, it’s just an observation.  I miss the family vibe of my old gym.

Enough moping!  I’ll be back blogging in the next week.  NO EXCUSES!
